About Us

Welcome to WILD

Flexible Learning. Real-World Application. Personal Support.

The Wyoming Institute of Learning & Design, or WILD, is a student-centered virtual learning program through Meeteetse Schools and Park County School District #16. WILD provides students and families with a flexible online option while maintaining the personal connection, academic support, and high expectations of Meeteetse School.

At WILD, students are not simply completing online assignments. They are building meaningful learning experiences through project-based learning, student voice and choice, and portfolio development. Our goal is to help students take ownership of their learning while developing the skills they need for life beyond the classroom.

Learning That Fits Your Family. Projects That Prepare Them For Life.

Is Your Family Ready To Go WILD?

Wondering if WILD is the right fit for your student? Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions families ask as they explore flexible, project-based virtual learning.

WILD blends the flexibility of virtual learning with the personal support of a small Wyoming school district. Students complete coursework through Canvas, participate in regular check-ins, and work with teachers to design, revise, and showcase their learning over time.

Through project-based learning, students connect academic content to real-world questions, interests, and goals. Their learning is documented through portfolios that demonstrate growth, reflection, and readiness for the next step.

WILD is built around:

  • Flexible, asynchronous learning
  • Scheduled teacher check-ins and support
  • Project-based learning experiences
  • Student portfolios
  • Personalized academic planning
  • Family and district learning coach support
  • Opportunities for fully virtual or hybrid learning

WILD may be a good fit for students and families who are looking for a flexible learning option while still wanting the structure, support, and accountability of a public school program.

WILD may support students who:

  • Learn well with flexibility and independence
  • Need an alternative to a traditional daily schedule
  • Want to pursue interests, projects, or career goals
  • Benefit from a smaller, more personalized school connection
  • Live within Park County School District #16 or may qualify through an approved agreement with another district
  • Want access to Meeteetse School opportunities through a hybrid option when appropriate

Because virtual learning requires commitment and support, each student participates in a pre-enrollment consultation to make sure WILD is the right fit.

WILD courses are delivered through Canvas, the learning management system used to organize assignments, communication, feedback, and course materials.

Students are expected to engage consistently in coursework, communicate with teachers, attend required check-ins, complete assignments and projects with integrity, and actively build their portfolio.

Families also play an important role. Each student learning from home must have a family-designated learning coach, usually a parent or guardian, who helps support the student’s schedule, progress, communication, and accountability.

Students learning in a school setting may also receive support from a district-assigned learning coach.

WILD is flexible, but it is not disconnected.

Students are supported through regular communication, teacher feedback, progress monitoring, and intervention when needed. Student progress is reviewed through participation data, assignment completion, assessments, project outcomes, and communication with students and families.

When a student is not making adequate progress, WILD may provide additional teacher support, increased check-ins, tutoring, structured work time, or a recommendation for hybrid or in-person support.

Our goal is to help students succeed, not leave them on their own.

Project-Based Learning: Online Learning That Feels Real

Two children enthusiastically build a miniature farm scene outdoors, with a red barn in the background.

At the Wyoming Institute of Learning & Design, students learn by doing. Project-Based Learning is at the heart of our virtual school because we believe students should not only know information, they should be able to use it. Through meaningful projects, students investigate real questions, solve problems, create products, share ideas, and connect their learning to the world around them.

This means school can look different from student to student. One student might design a model, build a presentation, interview a local expert, create a digital portfolio, write a proposal, study a community issue, or develop a product that demonstrates what they have learned. The goal is not simply to finish the next assignment. The goal is to build understanding, confidence, independence, and skills that matter beyond school.

WILD students still learn essential academic content and meet required standards. The difference is how that learning comes to life. Teachers guide students through lessons, feedback, revision, reflection, and final products so that learning is active, personal, and meaningful.

Through project-based learning, students develop skills families consistently want for their children:

  • Critical thinking
  • Problem solving
  • Creativity
  • Communication
  • Time management
  • Independence
  • Collaboration
  • Confidence
  • Ownership of learning

Students also build a portfolio over time. This portfolio becomes more than a collection of assignments. It becomes evidence of growth, effort, reflection, and readiness for the next step in life.

WILD is virtual, but it is not passive. It is flexible, but it is not disconnected. It is online learning with purpose, support, and real-world application.

For families looking for something more than traditional online school, WILD offers a different path: one where students learn, create, reflect, revise, and grow.
